Set of piston rings for the HDE 9000SA-SA3 1/3 diesel generator

Piston rings sit in grooves around the circumference of the piston and have two key functions - they seal the combustion chamber against combustion gases escaping into the crankcase and ensure correct distribution and scraping of oil on the cylinder wall. PRACTICAL TIP

Before fitting new rings to the piston, always measure the end gap of each ring directly in the cylinder using a feeler gauge. Then position the gaps of the individual rings evenly around the circumference of the piston rather than in one line - otherwise compression may escape where the gaps align.

USE / INSTALLATION / OPERATION

1. Remove the piston from the engine according to the service procedure (see part "Piston for HDE 9000SA-SA3 1/3").
2. Remove the old rings from the piston grooves - use suitable piston ring pliers and do not scratch the grooves.
3. Before fitting the new rings, measure the end gap of each ring directly in the cylinder using a feeler gauge.
4. Fit the rings to the piston in the specified order from the lower groove to the upper groove, observing the markings and orientation on the rings.
5. Position the gaps of the individual rings evenly around the circumference of the piston.
