Piston for the HDE 9000SA-SA3 1/3 diesel generator set

The piston is one of the most heavily loaded engine components - during every power cycle it transfers combustion pressure to the crankshaft and must withstand high temperatures and mechanical stress. A damaged or worn piston, such as one with a burnt crown or worn piston ring grooves, will cause loss of compression, increased oil consumption, or engine smoke.

• The piston has a shallow combustion chamber in the crown, three grooves for piston rings, and a piston pin bore with retaining rings. The crown is stamped with the marking “KA192F”, corresponding to the 192F engine - a single-cylinder, air-cooled diesel engine with a displacement of 499 cm³, as used in the HDE 9000SA-SA3 1/3 generator.
• The generator delivers a maximum output of 6.5 kW and a rated output of 6 kW at both 230 V and 400 V, and the diesel engine operates at 3000-3600 rpm.
• When replacing the piston, the piston rings must also be replaced and the condition of the cylinder bore checked - using old worn rings with a new piston, or vice versa, would not ensure proper compression sealing.

PRACTICAL TIP

Before installing a new piston, always check the condition of the cylinder bore using a micrometer or bore gauge. If the cylinder is worn or its ovality exceeds the tolerance, have it reconditioned first - a new piston in a worn cylinder will quickly lose its seal and the repair will soon need to be repeated.

USE / INSTALLATION / OPERATION

1. Remove the cylinder head and oil sump according to the service procedure.
2. Disconnect the connecting rod from the crankshaft and push the piston assembly upwards out of the cylinder bore.
3. Before installing the new piston, check the condition of the cylinder bore (wear, ovality) and have it reconditioned if necessary.
4. Install new piston rings on the piston, observing the specified order and orientation.
5. Insert the piston into the cylinder using a suitable piston ring compressor.
6. Connect the connecting rod to the crankshaft and tighten it to the specified torque.

Installation requires experience with complete engine overhauls and suitable tools (piston ring compressor, measuring instruments). We do not recommend replacing the part yourself without the appropriate equipment.
