Oil filter for Hahn & Sohn HDE 15000EA3, HDE 15000SA3 and HDE 18000SA3 diesel generators

The oil filter removes mechanical impurities and wear particles from the engine oil that are generated during normal engine operation. Without clean oil, wear of the crankshaft bearings, piston, and camshaft accelerates, so regular replacement of the filter together with the oil is an essential part of engine maintenance.

• The filter has a full-metal spin-on design with a standard thread commonly used on many automotive and stationary diesel engines. 
• The filter is designed for three Hahn & Sohn diesel generator models. The HDE 15000EA3 and HDE 15000SA3 are equipped with a twin-cylinder engine with a displacement of 997 cm³ and an output of 11-12 kW; they differ only in their design, with an open frame versus a soundproofed enclosure. The HDE 18000SA3 has a twin-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1247 cm³ and an output of 14-15 kW. All three operate at 3000 rpm on diesel fuel compliant with EN 590.
• A clogged filter restricts oil flow, and in newer engines the oil may bypass the filter through the bypass valve without being filtered, so neglecting filter replacement over a long period increases engine wear even when there are no obvious signs of a problem.

PRACTICAL TIP

Before screwing on the new filter, apply a thin layer of clean oil to the rubber seal. This makes tightening easier and ensures the seal seats evenly, helping prevent oil leakage after the first start. Tighten the filter by hand, only a fraction of a turn after the seal makes contact, rather than tightening it fully with a tool.

USE / INSTALLATION / OPERATION

1. Switch off the generator and allow the engine to reach operating temperature so the oil drains more easily, but not so hot that there is a risk of burns.
2. Drain the engine oil according to the machine's service procedure.
3. Unscrew the old filter counter-clockwise using a suitable oil filter wrench.
4. Apply a thin layer of clean oil to the rubber seal of the new filter.
5. Screw the filter on by hand until the seal makes contact, then tighten it approximately 3/4 to 1 additional turn.
6. Fill the engine with new engine oil and check the filter for leaks after starting.

The manufacturer recommends replacing the filter together with the oil, not separately - the old filter contains accumulated contaminants that would contaminate the newly filled clean oil.
