Valve safety clip – Hahn & Sohn HDE20SS3-DW

The valve retaining clip is a small but functionally important part of the valve train — it fits into the groove machined into the valve stem and, together with the retainer, holds the valve spring in the correct position. Without a correctly seated and undamaged clip, there is a risk that the valve spring may come loose while the engine is running, which can lead to serious engine damage (the valve may fall into the combustion chamber).

• The part is designed for the four-cylinder diesel engine WEICHAI WP2.3D25E200 (Hahn & Sohn HDE20SS3-DW generator, 20 kW / 25 kVA). It is a small, precisely shaped steel component whose correct seating in the groove of the valve stem must be checked during installation.

PRACTICAL TIP

When disassembling the valve train, immediately sort and label the clips according to their position (cylinder/valve) — they are small and easily lost or mixed up, and they are not universally identical for all positions in all engines. Before reassembly, visually inspect each clip to make sure it is not deformed or cracked.

USE / INSTALLATION / OPERATION

1. Before disassembling the cylinder head or valve train, use a suitable valve spring compressor.
2. Compress the valve spring, release and remove the retaining clip from the groove in the valve stem.
3. During reassembly, fit the new clip into the groove in the valve stem and check that it is fully and correctly seated.
4. Release the valve spring slowly and check that the clip remains correctly seated.

Installation requires a valve spring compressor and experience with valve train servicing — we do not recommend replacing the part yourself without specialist knowledge and the correct tools.
