Hahn & Sohn HDV04APRO-E professional petrol wood chipper with hydraulic feed and electric start
Hahn & Sohn HDV 04APRO-E is a robust petrol wood chipper designed for processing branches and other woody and organic material. The Loncin engine with a displacement of 420 cm³ and an output of 9.1 kW drives a drum chipping system with a specified maximum branch diameter of up to 150 mm.
Work is made easier by the self-feeding system, large hopper, 360° rotating discharge chute, electric and manual starting, and a chassis with tow bar for moving the machine around the worksite.
The Hahn & Sohn HDV 04APRO-E petrol wood chipper is designed for users who need to regularly process branches, wood offcuts, and other organic material generated during the maintenance of gardens, orchards, parks, or larger properties.
- At the heart of the machine is a Loncin 420 cm³ petrol engine with an output of 9.1 kW. The engine drives the drum chipping mechanism through a pair of V-belts. Cutting is performed by two blades, and once the material is engaged by the mechanism, it is gradually drawn into the machine. This means the operator does not have to force branches into the chipper.
- The specified maximum branch diameter is 150 mm. However, the actual material capacity always also depends on the hardness, moisture, shape, and branching of the branches. The best results are achieved with freshly cut material, which is more flexible and places less strain on the cutting edges than old, hard, and dry wood.
- The large feed hopper makes it easier to insert branched material. Processed wood chips are discharged through a high discharge chute, which can be rotated through 360°. The direction and angle of discharge can therefore be adjusted to suit current conditions, for example when filling a trailer, wheelbarrow, or when depositing chips onto a pile.
- Operator safety is supported by an emergency stop bar and a separate emergency stop button. The machine is also equipped with protective covers over the drive system and safety warning labels in several languages.
- For easier handling, the chipper is equipped with large pneumatic tyres, two front guide wheels, and a tow bar with a 2" coupling device. The towing device is intended for moving the machine within private property or a worksite. The machine is not intended for towing on public roads.

WHY CUSTOMERS CHOOSE IT
- Branch diameter up to 150 mm for processing thicker garden waste
- Loncin 420 cm³ engine with an output of 9.1 kW
- Self-feeding material system, reducing the need to push branches manually
- 360° rotating discharge chute for precise direction of wood chips
- Electric and manual starting depending on current conditions
- Tow bar and integrated chassis for more practical movement of the heavy machine
PRACTICAL TIP
Insert branches into the hopper with the thicker cut end first and keep the branched section facing outward. Freshly cut branches are generally easier to process than old, dry wood. If the engine speed begins to drop, stop feeding material and wait until the engine returns to full operating speed.

USE / INSTALLATION / OPERATION
Suitable use
The chipper is designed for processing clean organic material, for example:
- branches,
- stems,
- shoots and vines,
- leafy garden waste,
- roots free of soil,
- other suitable plant material.
Do not insert soil, stones, sand, metal objects, or other foreign materials into the machine. They may damage the blades and internal mechanism.
Before first use
- Place the machine on a solid, level, and stable surface.
- Complete the assembly of the chassis, wheels, tow bar, feed hopper, and discharge chute according to the manual.
- Check the tightness of all bolted connections.
- Check the condition and tension of the belts.
- Fill the engine with the specified engine oil.
- Check the oil level before every start.
- Fill the fuel tank with suitable petrol.
- Set the discharge chute in the desired direction.
- Use safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and sturdy footwear.
The engine is supplied without engine oil and must not be started before oil is added.
Basic operation
- Make sure the chipping mechanism drive is disengaged before starting.
- Open the fuel valve.
- When the engine is cold, set the choke to the starting position.
- Start the engine using the electric or manual starter.
- Allow the engine to warm up and gradually increase the speed.
- Engage the chipping drum drive slowly and smoothly.
- Feed material gradually and allow it to be drawn in automatically.
- Do not overload the machine with excessive amounts of material.
- Before finishing work, allow the engine to run briefly at lower speed.
- Switch off the engine and close the fuel supply.
Safety during operation
- Never put hands or feet into the hopper or discharge chute.
- Do not use the machine without properly installed protective covers.
- Keep other people and animals outside the working area.
- Clear blockages only after switching off the engine and allowing all moving parts to come to a complete stop.
- Disconnect the spark plug cable before maintenance.
- Do not operate the combustion engine in an enclosed or insufficiently ventilated area.
- Do not tilt the machine while it is running.
- Do not use it on concrete or another hard surface where material may dangerously ricochet.
