The fuel injection pump is the heart of the diesel engine's fuel system. Unlike the feed pump, which only delivers diesel fuel from the tank, the injection pump generates the high pressure required to atomise the fuel through the injector directly into the combustion chamber, precisely at the moment required by the engine's operating cycle.

PRACTICAL TIP

After replacing the fuel injection pump, always bleed the fuel system thoroughly before attempting to start the engine. Air in the high-pressure system prevents proper fuel injection, and without bleeding, the engine may fail to start even with a proven functioning new pump.

USE / INSTALLATION / OPERATION

1. Switch off the generator and allow the engine to cool. Shut off the fuel supply from the tank.
2. Disconnect the high-pressure lines to the injectors and the fuel supply/return hoses from the old pump, as well as the speed governor linkage if applicable.
3. Unscrew the flange mounting bolts and remove the pump from the engine.
4. Install the new pump in the same position and check that the drive engages correctly (cam or eccentric depending on the engine design).
5. Tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque and reconnect all lines and the governor linkage.
6. Open the fuel supply and bleed the system thoroughly according to the engine's service procedure.
7. Check all connections for leaks before the first start.
