Crank shaft oil seal (flywheel side) – Hahn & Sohn HDE20SS3-DW

The crankshaft oil seal is a rubber sealing ring with a rubber sealing lip that surrounds the rotating shaft and prevents engine oil from leaking out of the crankcase. This seal is located on the flywheel side.

PRACTICAL TIP

When installing a new seal, lightly apply a thin layer of engine oil or sealing compound to the outer circumference (metal casing) and a small amount of oil to the sealing lip — this makes insertion easier and prevents damage to the lip when the engine is first started. Press the seal in evenly, never at an angle, ideally using a suitable installation tool.

USE / INSTALLATION / OPERATION

1. Disconnect the generator from the power supply and drain the engine oil.
2. Remove the cover/component on the flywheel side according to the engine service procedure.
3. Carefully pry out the old seal, clean the seating surface, and check whether the shaft surface is damaged where it contacts the sealing lip.
4. Apply a thin layer of oil to the sealing lip of the new seal and press it evenly into place using a suitable tool (do not strike the seal directly with a hammer).
5. Reinstall the cover/component, refill the oil, and check for leaks after starting the engine.
