Connecting rod bearing (lower) – Hahn & Sohn HDE20SS3-DW

The lower connecting rod bearing shell is installed in the connecting rod cap (unlike the upper shell, which sits directly in the body of the connecting rod) and together with the upper shell forms a complete circular bearing surface on the crankshaft journal. It carries the same dynamic load as the upper shell — during engine operation, both halves evenly transfer forces from the piston through the connecting rod to the crankshaft journal.

USE / INSTALLATION / OPERATION

1. Remove the oil sump and connecting rod caps according to the service procedure.
2. Remove the old bearing shells (upper and lower) from the connecting rod and its cap.
3. Before installing the new shells, inspect and measure the connecting rod journals on the crankshaft.
4. Fit the new lower shell into the connecting rod cap so that the locating tab engages in the groove.
5. Reinstall the cap and tighten to the specified torque.
