Portable generators will have your back

Energy, especially electrical energy, is the cornerstone of modern society. Without it, we often cannot perform even the most basic activities, so it's no surprise that we want to have a reliable source of electricity available at all times—even when we are far from the outlets we normally rely on. Fortunately, backup power sources exist to help us in such situations. In many cases, they come in the form of portable suitcase generators.
Generator – a reliable helper in times of need
An electricity generator, or power station, is a device capable of producing electrical energy to power electrical equipment even in places where the grid is down or completely unavailable.
Generators operate on the principle of a dynamo. They are usually powered by a combustion petrol engine, although gas or solar types can also be found. Generators can be categorized according to many parameters, and one common classification differentiates between frame generators and suitcase generators.
Suitcase generators are—just as the name suggests—compact generators enclosed in an outer casing and are easy to carry. They are often referred to as digital or inverter generators. This is not a perfect synonym, but suitcase generators are usually of this type.
Power generators and inverter technology
Inverter technology works on a dual conversion process: from AC to DC and then back to AC. This allows the generator to deliver a very clean and stable output waveform. Thanks to this, the generator can safely power sensitive electronics.
Another important aspect is that these generators are quiet and relatively small. That leads us to the key question: where can generators with these properties be used?
Portable generators and their use
Such a mobile generator has countless uses. Thanks to its compact dimensions, you can easily pack it into your car and take it to a picnic, festival, camping, or even sailing. It is equally useful for garden work and around the house. For many caravan owners, it is an essential accessory that allows them to remain independent from campsites with power access.
A suitcase generator can power household appliances, standard power tools, and—as mentioned—electronics such as computers or TVs. Since there are many generators on the market with different performance levels, it’s important to decide which one to buy based on the devices you plan to power.

Which generator should you choose?
The power output of the generator must match the requirements and design of the device you want to power. It’s no surprise that to power a computer or similar small electronics, even the smallest generator is sufficient—but even then, you should pay attention to the quality of the generator. Low prices are nice, but build quality, components, and durability are just as important. Reviews, customer experience, or the advice of a professional seller can help.
Another general rule states that for so-called resistive appliances (from light bulbs to hairdryers and kettles), you can rely on the rated wattage and choose the generator accordingly.
The situation is different for devices with electric motors. These require a generator with a significantly higher power output than the rated wattage. This is because many devices need a much higher input power for startup—far above the value shown on their label.
The same applies to appliances with so-called commutator motors, such as grinders or drills. Here too, it is ideal to choose a generator with double the output of the device’s rated power.
Freezers, compressors, and similar devices require an even greater power surplus. In such cases, the necessary generator output may be up to ten times the value listed on the appliance.
Power in a small suitcase
From all the above, it’s clear that a suitcase generator has a wide range of uses and can be a helpful companion on holidays, during work, and in everyday tasks around the house and garden.
At first glance, it may seem like a small generator, but that doesn’t mean it can’t handle a lot of work. Generators of this type are quiet, lightweight, easy to carry, and highly versatile. Choose the one that best suits your needs and get started!
