It is advisable to choose units with sufficient engine capacity and power, as these largely determine the generator’s overall output. The output is usually stated in two values — maximum and continuous. The difference lies in their duration: maximum output refers to short bursts of high load, while continuous output tells you what the generator can handle during standard operation.

You should also pay attention to the output voltage, which is further defined by the number and type of sockets the generator can power. Be sure to choose a sufficient number of outlets to meet the demands you place on the generator.

Other important parameters include the fuel tank capacity and noise level, as well as the overall size and weight of the unit.

Where can you use a diesel generator?

A major advantage of diesel generators is their nearly unlimited fuel tank capacity. The only limitation is the construction itself, meaning the size of the diesel tank is directly proportional to how long the generator can operate.

For safety reasons, it is not advisable to store large quantities of flammable fuel in one place, but there are very large mobile diesel generators that can be transported using a towing device behind a vehicle. Such a unit can power practically anything. However, more commonly you will encounter smaller diesel generators that still provide more than enough power for home use.
