AVR voltage regulator for HDE 15000EA3, HDE 15000SA3 and HDE 18000SA3 diesel generators

The AVR is an electronic board that monitors the generator's output voltage and continuously adjusts the alternator excitation so that the voltage remains stable even under varying loads. Without a functioning AVR, the generator either produces no voltage at all or supplies unstable voltage outside safe limits, which can damage connected appliances.

Before replacing the regulator, check whether the problem may instead be caused by the carbon brushes or alternator excitation winding - the AVR does not generate voltage itself, it only regulates it. If the generator produces no voltage at all even with a proven working AVR, look for the cause in the alternator itself rather than the regulator.

USE / INSTALLATION / OPERATION

1. Switch off the generator and disconnect it from both the load and the starting battery.
2. Open the cover of the AVR compartment according to the machine's service procedure.
3. Disconnect all four connectors from the old regulator and unscrew it from the mounting holes.
4. Screw the new regulator into the same position and connect each connector to its corresponding position.
5. Close the cover, connect the battery, and start the machine without load.
6. Check the output voltage with a voltmeter and, if necessary, fine-tune it using the adjustment trimmer on the board.

Adjust the AVR only with a suitable measuring instrument. Incorrectly adjusted voltage can damage connected appliances.
